Do Bridesmaids Need Flowers?

Flowers can be an important part of your wedding, as they help add a level of beauty to your special day. Traditionally you see bridesmaids carrying bouquets of flowers during the wedding ceremony. But flowers can get pretty expensive. So do your bridesmaids really need flowers?

So, do bridesmaids need flowers? No, your bridesmaids do not need to hold flowers. But there are better and cheaper alternatives to bouquets. They could hold a small clutch purse or a lantern.

If you don’t want your bridesmaids to hold anything at all, but still have flowers they could each wear a flower crown. Instead of a bouquet, you could have each bridesmaid hold a single flower.

Who Pays For the Bridesmaid’s Bouquets?

Flowers and bouquets can get pretty expensive. So you may wonder who generally pays for the bridesmaid’s bouquets.

The bride. Typically, the bride pays for the flowers or greenery involved in the wedding. The bride is the one planning the colors and types of flowers and orders of bouquets. Sometimes family members may pay for small things like flowers or decorations.

The bridesmaids. Sometimes the bridesmaids will pay for their own bouquets, sometimes as a gift or a request by the bride. Bridesmaids typically pay for their own dress, shoes, and other accessories so it is sometimes more ideal to have them pay for their own flowers as well.

How Much are Bridesmaid Bouquets?

When buying flowers for your wedding, it can get pretty pricey depending on what flowers you are getting and where you are buying them. Here is a simple idea of what a general bouquet of flowers would cost.

Artificial bouquet. An artificial flower bouquet can be as cheap as $10 or as expensive as $100. It all depends on where you purchase them. If you get them online, such as Amazon, you can get a simple bouquet for $10 to $12. If you were to make your own arrangements it can be much more expensive since you have to buy a bunch of individual flowers.

Artificial Sunflowers & Lavender Bridesmaid Bouquet

You can purchase the whole set of bridesmaid flowers fairly inexpensively on Amazon. Theses sunflowers and lavender bridesmaid bouquets are only about 7″ tall and you get six matching bouquets. If you have less than six bridesmaids, you can use one as the tossing bouquet.

Real bouquet. A real flower bouquet can cost much more, since you have to buy them locally to stay fresh. A bridesmaid bouquet can go from $65 to $125 depending on the company you buy them from and where you live. Making your own bouquets may be more ideal depending on what resources you have, but it can also get pricey. A real brides bouquet could cost between $150 and $350. Whether you use faux or real flowers, make sure to have a budget of at least $1,500 for wedding flowers.

Purple Elegance Mixed Bouquet

If you purchase flowers from a place like 1-800-FLOWERS you can get the same bouquet in various sizes so you can order one size for bridesmaids, one size for the mother of the bride and the toss bouquet, and one size for the bride. This way all the bouquets match and they are all beautiful. A place like 1-800-FLOWERS could be a less expensive option for purchasing real flowers that will look beautiful on your wedding day!

Silk bouquet. A silk flower bouquet is a specific kind of artificial flower that gives the illusion of a real bouquet. An inexpensive silk flower bouquet would cost in between $20 and $100. If you want high-quality bouquets it can be much more expensive, such as $300. The more real-life the bouquet looks, the more expensive they are. Sometimes real flowers can be much cheaper artificial ones. But faux bouquets won’t wilt or die, while real bouquets will.

Silk Rose Real-Touch Flowers

These silk flowers have a more realistic look and feel. Real-Touch flowers are the perfect compromise between artificial flower and real flowers. The nice thing about these silk flowers is you can always keep them, they won’t die, and they look just as beautiful as real flowers!

Real, Artificial, or No Bridesmaid Flowers: In Conclusion

I hope you have found these tips and ideas helpful. In the end, it’s completely up to you on whether or not you would like to have flowers (real or artificial) or no flowers for your bridesmaids to carry down the aisle.

In the end, if you want to go outside the box, you could have your bridesmaids carry something totally different down the aisle.
